Frequently Asked Questions
Kids and Teens classes

How does my first class work?

Please try to arrive 15 minutes early so that you can meet the coaches, sign a waiver, change, get shown the space and be ready to train in time for the start of the class.

What do I wear?

Firstly please remove footwear before stepping near or on the mats. Always wear footwear when going to the bathroom. We recommend bringing some sliders/sandals to use at the gym, you are welcome to leave these at the gym too!

Please remove all jewellery and piercings, as they present a safety hazard to you and your training partner.

Note: Nails on both fingers and toes must be trimmed. This means short enough that the top of the finger is visible. Long manicures and false nails are not suitable for BJJ for safety and hygiene reasons.

If you are attending your first Gi class, and you have a Gi please wear it. You are welcome to wear any colour of Gi you prefer. If you do not have a Gi you can borrow one of the gym loaner Gis until you purchase your own. We also usually have a few Gis for purchase at the gym, if interested speak with a coach!
(For Kids and Teens on our free two week trial we recommend Nogi attire to start and if you feel like BJJ is for you then investment in a Gi would be worthwhile. Coaches can recommend brands and websites to purchase from as we currently only sell adult Gis at the gym!)

If you are attending a NoGi class, please ensure your clothing is free from anything dangerous that may scratch (pockets, metal, zippers, buttons, etc).  Shorts or leggings and a fitted t-shirt or rashguard are suitable. We also sell club rashguards at the gym, if interested speak to a coach!

Is BJJ a good way to get fit/exercise?

100 percent! BJJ is a fun and dynamic style of exercise that will increase your muscle tone, coordination, cardio, flexibility, balance, and will help reduce body fat. Just remember to start slow and take every session and roll at your own pace, we’re here for a long time and a good time.

How much is the training?

We offer a two week free trial for new members coming to kids/teens classes.

After this we do offer a monthly membership of £40 per month, this includes all 3 classes every week! A total of 12 classes a month which works out at £3.33 per class!

I don’t want to encourage my child to fight- wont BJJ do this?

Not at all, BJJ has its origins in self defence and that’s what we promote to our students in the gym!
We teach our students yes to defend themselves but not before taking all measures to avoid confrontation and understanding that fighting/violence isn’t the answer.

Will my child get hurt?

Of course there are risks involve with any physical sport however our coaching staff is experienced, properly trained and dedicated to providing all students can learn in a safe and fun environment were all members are encouraged to look after themselves and each others safety!

Will my child learn skills they can use outside the mats?

Yes! BJJ is not only a great sport for physical and mental health but also teaches discipline, respect, focus and self control. We believe these skills help all our students with their lives both on and off the mats.

My child hates sports and other physical activity-wont they hate this?

We believe that BJJ can be for anyone and here at Trickster we aim to provide a learning environment that both progresses students abilities but mainly provides an enjoyable atmosphere they want to return too. BJJ is an extremely satisfying sport due to the rewards in learning and developing new techniques and skills, we have many members who have never enjoyed other sports but love BJJ!

Do you have a uniform policy?

Bar having clean appropriate gear (Gi for Gi class, shorts and a rashguard for NoGi) for class there is no forced policy.
